I was introduced to clay work in my senior year of college in 1968 and I have never stopped. I moved to Oregon in 1968 where I did graduate work at Portland State University in Art and Education and studied ceramics at Oregon College of Art and Craft.  I took many classes in ceramics, painting, life drawing and printmaking to maintain and increase my skills as an artist.

In Portland I was an 'artist in residence’ for Do Your Own Art (DOYA) which offered a variety of workshops working with clay.  I taught decorating techniques, glaze application as well as wheel throwing.  My pottery ranged from modern dishes to whimsical animal platters to ceramic masks. I was a member of the Oregon Potters Association and one of my pieces was featured in the publicity for Ceramic Showcase 1996, their 14th Annual Show and Sale at the Oregon Convention Center.  In 1994 I started my own business, Lydia Arts.  My focus since the 1980’s has been ceramics but still I enjoy printmaking, drawing and painting.  In 1996 my husband and I purchased land on Lopez Island and moved there in 1999, not only because we loved the island but also because of the artistic environment in which I felt I could continue my pottery business.

I love working with my hands, making things that other people will enjoy. Summers you can find me every Saturday at the Lopez Island Farmer’s Market and my work year-round in the village at Chimera Gallery.
