I have been a studio potter for more than forty years, beginning in Ann Arbor, Michigan where I got my BFA from the University of Michigan in 1967. I’ve had studios in Olympia, Seattle, and now, for the past 26 years, on Lopez Island, Washington. I now have built another studio and kiln in Guatemala where I spend the winter months.

I make both functional and sculptural ceramics. My functional work is a long established line of wheel thrown pottery . Each piece is hand painted using a wax resist process to create original work of art representing northwest wildlife and spiritual magical images. My ceramic sculpture is formed by hand, or in some cases, using a combination of throwing and hand-forming and burnishing, using a red clay body. Ravens and bird figures appear often in this work and reflect my connection to nature and spirit. Painting has been my private art, though I had some shows of my work over the years. I continue to paint. You can find images on my website.

I am also a teacher of both pottery and art classes. I feel that creating art, teaching others in a way that allows them to experience their creativity, and sharing art work with others is a beautiful and healthy way to live. I am grateful for the opportunity I have to do this in my life.
