I`ve been working in ceramics since the mid '70s and on Lopez Island since '83. Both my high school art teacher and my pottery instructor were students of Marquerite Wildenhain who ran Pond Farm on the Russian River and had a wide influence on the west coast. I consider my work as part of that sphere of influence.
The intention of my work is to let the medium and the process be expressed in the form and surface of the piece. Rarely do I put illustrations on my pieces I consider the entire piece an illustration. I like the variety of working with both the high temperature of reduction firing, wood firing and the lower temperature and unpredictable nature of fuming in saggars. These three processes give me a wide avenue for creative expression. For more about these firing methods visit my web site.
