"The Air, the Air is Everywhere" is the title of the image shown here - painted "en plein air", September, 2020, at Shoal Bay Estuary during the summer wild fire season, with smoke and marine fog layers controlling the atmosphere. It won "Best Plein Air Painting" in the Plein Air Painters of Washington Annual Juried Competition, November 2020.

I moved to Lopez Island in 1974, to fulfill a life-long dream of becoming a full-time professional artist. Since then, my artwork has shifted from abstract painting to representational - and now embraces "plein air painting" as the primary focus.

To me, there's nothing more gratifying than working on-site, in ever changing light, weather and atmospheric conditions, while catching the elusive/fleeting moments of live subject matter, with all of my senses on lock. Working in-the-moment always breathes more life into my paintings . . . and also gives the viewer a "sense of being there".

Since 2003, my artwork has won 64 top awards and honors in major national and international juried art competitions.
In January, 2018, I was sponsored and voted into the prestigious Salmagundi Club in NYC.

My work has been published in several leading art magazines, and prominent art books, notably "Strokes of Genius 8, 9 & 10. (2016-2018) by North Light Books, "Plein Air Magazine" and "The Artists' Magazine". It also resides in numerous private collections worldwide, and is displayed in permanent institutional art collections, including Zion National Park, where I won the park superintendent's purchase award in 2014, during the annual Zion Plein Air Invitational.

I am frequently invited to give live demos and lectures for established arts associations and have taught more than 75 art workshops in plein air landscape painting, all over the U.S.and Europe - especially Croatia! Go to: slikamilina.ca for details on my sixth Croatia tour and workshop, October 1-10, 2022.
