2025 Lopez Artist Guild Scholarship Announcement
In 2025 Lopez Island Artist Guild will award three Shirley Wright scholarships to graduating Lopez seniors.
Mirabella Velo has dedicated her work in acrylics to self portraits. “The paintings each hold powerful emotions of mine, most of them represent struggle.” The process has deepened her self awareness and provided real satisfaction. Mirabella will study art and political science at Davidson College in North Carolina.
Matilda Twigg’s medium of choice is pencil but her skills are wide and include digital painting and sculpture. Heading to Yale University, she plans to integrate art and science with interest in biology. In her application she says, “I aspire for my art to conjure curiosity, express knowledge, and evoke the evolved elegance of life.”
Anna Fuller dedicated her time during Covid-19 to developing her artistic skills and she felt anchored by it. Now art is integral to her life and says “I truly owe so much to my experiences with art and am so grateful to be supported by the art program at school.” After a gap year she will attend University of British Columbia.
The scholarship committee was honored to meet these three young women and we wish them the very best in their next chapter.
