As part of the fiber and textile collaborative Island Fibers, I design and create hand-dyed, handwoven items - scarves, shawls, ruanas, blankets, rugs. Essential to the process has been the creation of an evolving color palette, using many local, natural materials as well as commercial, environmentally-friendly dyes, enabling subtle gradations of color not otherwise available. A desire to make good use of the local bounty of exceptional Lopez fleece led to the creation of Island Fibers, and in the process we discovered a rhythm unique to each step - from fleece to finished textile. We call it the Slow Fiber Movement, or another way of finding beauty in simplicity.
